In 2018, law-enforcement authorities revealed more than 290 facts of human trafficking. Moreover, police stopped 9 attempts of trafficking of children, including three infants, UNN informs with reference to the press service of the Minister of Interior Affairs of Ukraine.

“During the year, the officers of the counter-trafficking units of the National Police revealed more than 290 facts of human trafficking. Moreover, police officers stopped the activity of 24 organized groups,” the Ministry informed with reference to the head of the Department for Human Trafficking Crimes under the National Police, Ihor Malakhov.

Thus, last year, the officers of the counter-trafficking units of the National Police revealed 2,500 crimes. Police officers identified more than 1,000 persons committing these crimes.

According to the results of pre-trial investigation carried out by the officers of the counter-trafficking units, 2,162 criminal offenses were solved. 1,197 of them were crimes categorized as grave and extremely grave ones, Mr. Malakhov noted.

Moreover, the officers of the counter-trafficking units documented 472 criminal offenses connected with pimping. In addition, during the year, the law-enforcement agencies revealed 249 groups of illegal migrants including more than a thousand of foreigners.

“It should be noted that 75,000 administrative offences were committed in 2018 by foreigners in the territory of Ukraine. That is why the National Police constantly takes preventive measures and asks the State Migration Service of Ukraine to reduce the legal period of staying in the territory of the country, and stipulate the forced return and deportation of violators,” Mr. Malakhov informed.

Moreover, police officers stopped 9 attempts of trafficking of children.

“During the year, police stopped 9 attempts of trafficking of children, including three infants,” the press release says.

It should be reminded that according to the UN, nearly 30 percent of victims of human trafficking are children.
