“World religions and civil societies united against hatred and extremism”

An International conference “World religions and civil societies united against hatred and extremism” will be held on March 28, 2011at 10-00 at the The Sofiyivskiy Grand Hall, Premier Palace Hotel (Kiev, Blvd. Shevchenko 5-7/29).

The conference will bring together leading international experts, religious and public leaders. 

Honorary and special guests of the conference will be: 

Patriarch of Jerusalem, Theophil III; 

Former prime minister and current Somali presidential candidate, Mohamed Ghedi; 

President of the National Federation of Muslims of France, Dr Mohamed Bechari; 

General Secretary for European Council of Religious Leaders, Mr. Stein Villumstad; 

Head of the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies of Jordan,  Professor Kamel S. Abu Jaber;

President of the World Islamic Sciences and Education University, Sheikh Abdul Nasser Abu Al-Basal;

Muslim Spiritual Directorate of the Asiatic Part of Russia, Sheikh Nafigulla Ashirov;

Executive Director of the Jordanian Interfaith Coexistence Research Center, Father Nabil Haddad;

and other religious leaders, scholars and experts from the United States, Britain, Israel, Russia, Norway, as well as leaders and representatives of religious communities and confessions in Ukraine.

“This conference is an unprecedented event in the history of modern Ukraine, as Kiev hosts events of this level and significance for the first time. Ukraine is chosen to hold this kind of conference, as our country is one of the few in the post-Soviet area, which showed an example of peaceful coexistence of different world religions and confessions since the
dissolution of the Soviet Union” - said the initiator of the conference, member of Ukrainian parliament, Alexander Feldman.

The conference will consider questions of tolerant coexistence between different religions in the modern world, as well as a wide range of problems of countering intolerance and extremism.
