EU extends emergency border controls in Schengen zone
European Union envoys approved the decision to extend emergency border controls in the Schengen zone for another three months to mid-May, Reuters reports.
Germany, Austria, Sweden, Denmark and Norway introduced the emergency border controls in September 2015 due to the influx of migrants from the Middle East and Africa.
Last week, the European Commission recommended the EU Council to allow these five countries to maintain the temporary control at the borders within the Schengen zone for additional three months.
At the same time, the European Commission doesn’t want to extend internal border control after May, however, Germany insists on the further maintenance of these measures.
