IOM: 2,169 migrants died in Mediterranean in 2017

Since the beginning of 2017, 2,169 migrants have drowned or are missing in the Mediterranean Sea, the International Organization for Migration reports. 

According to the IOM, as of June 29, 95,768 migrants arrived in Europe by sea in 2017. Almost 85% of migrants arrived in Italy; the others entered Greece, Cyprus and Spain. 

The total of 2,967 deaths of migrants was documented worldwide. 

It has been informed earlier that 5,000 migrants more were rescued in the Mediterranean Sea when they tried to reach Europe on unsafe boats.
