Finland expects less than 8,000 refugees this year

This year, from 5,000 to 8,000 refugees may arrive in Finland.

It was stated by Finland’s Minister of the Interior Paula Risikko, Yle reports.

Ms. Risikko said that the number may be even lower. The number of asylum seekers constantly approaches the level, which was before 2015.

In 2015, more than 30,000 asylum seekers arrived in Finland.

More than 85,000 asylum seekers arrived in Italy since the beginning of the year. It is expected that the number of asylum seekers will increase in Finland as well, as many of them will be trying to move further to Europe.

Risikko considers the situation in Italy serious and considers that Finland should also prepare to the increase of the number of asylum seekers despite the absence of specific signs of inflow increase so far.
