Brussels urges to demonstrate determination in migrant deportation issue

The European Commission urged the EU member states to demonstrate more determination in the issue of deportation of migrants, Dimitris Avramopoulos, the EU’s commissioner for migration said this in his interview to Die Welt.

He stated that return and readmission have the primary importance. It is unacceptable that those who have no right to stay in the EU live in the member countries secretly and illegally.

The EU’s commissioner noted that necessity of joint European system of deportation of migrants.

It’s time to do more and to simplify the procedures of return, as well as to improve the cooperation with the third countries, Avramopoulos said.

He also made specific proposals concerning the ways of improvement of the deportation procedure in the EU countries by the European Commission. The member states must improve the coordination of actions between agencies taking part in the process of deportation with the purpose of efficient return.

According to his words, it is necessary to eliminate abuse during the process of deportation. In particular, it is necessary to exclude delays in the process of asylum application considerations with the purpose of postponement of deportation decisions.

It should be noted that according to Frontex, more than 40 percent out of 305,000 decisions about deportation have never been executed.
