Germany’s foreign ministry demands protection of human rights in occupied Crimea

German government condemns the annexation of Ukrainian Crimea and the violation of human rights on the peninsula, Ukrinform reports with reference to the comments from the Federal Foreign Office.

It is informed that Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel and the Government of Germany criticize the annexation of Crimea without any hints, as it contradicts the international law, including the meetings and negotiations with the Russian government and society.

The agency emphasizes that they strongly support the restoration of the rule of law and the protection of human rights in Crimea.

Ukrainian human rights defenders have earlier called on the Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel to raise a question to the government of the RF about the necessity to let doctors attend Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia and in the occupied Crimea.

During the Friday briefing, the Federal Foreign Office’s spokesperson Rainer Breul said that Berlin hadn’t obtained official request from human rights defenders yet.
