UN Secretary-General declared about allocation of means to help nine countries
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres declared on Friday about the allocation of $100 million from the organization’s emergency fund to render assistance to the residents of nine countries suffering from the humanitarian crises, the UNN reports with reference to the UN News Centre.
At the fundraising conference for the Organization’s Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) Guterres said that the means would be allocated to help the residents of Haiti, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, Mali, Pakistan, Tanzania, Uganda, Philippines, and Eritrea.
The UN Secretary-General also urged the countries to increase the donor contributions to the Fund from $450 million to $1 billion, explaining it with the increase of humanitarian needs in the world.
It should be reminded that on December 6, 2017, in Nairobi, the UN Environment Assembly, known also as the “Parliament of the Environment,” adopted the resolution “Pollution mitigation and control in areas affected by armed conflict or terrorism” initiated by Iraq, Norway and Ukraine.
