Number of asylum seekers in EU decreased twice

During the period from January 2017 to September 2017, the countries of the European Union received 479,650 first-time asylum applications, which is 50 percent less than during the same period of 2016, Deutsche Welle reports with reference to Funke Media Group.

During 2016, 1.2 million people submitted asylum applications in the EU. The number was 1.25 million in 2015.

According to the latest Eurostat figures, in the second half of 2016, the EU issued 62 percent of positive solutions on asylum applications. In the first half of 2017, this index was 48 percent. In the third quarter of 2017, it reduced down to 43 percent.

According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior of Germany, which is one of the main destination countries for refugees, in November 2017, 207,157 asylum applications were submitted. It is 71 percent less in comparison with the same period of 2016, when asylum seekers submitted 723,027 applications.

In Germany, according to the federal police, the number of illegal migrants decreased almost twice as well.

While it was 111,000 persons in 2016, during the first 10 months of 2017, their number was 46,000 persons.

It should be reminded that according to preliminary data of the Ministry of the Interior, no more than 200,000 migrants are expected this year in Germany. This index is almost five times lower than in 2015, which was marked by the peak of refugee crisis.
