UN Security Council voted for truce in Syria

UN Security Council supported the resolution unanimously demanding the 30-day ceasefire in order to render medical and humanitarian assistance to the victims of the conflict, UNN reports with reference to the ВВС.

Starting from Thursday, the voting was delayed several times because the members of the UN Security Council could not come to a joint decision.

Russia, which is an ally of Syrian government, insisted on amendments to the resolution, while the diplomats of the western countries accused Moscow of stalling for time.

During the whole week, the bombing of Eastern Ghouta – rebel enclave near Damascus – continued.

“Some 500 people are said to have been killed by government forces in the enclave since last Sunday, while rebels fire on Damascus has reportedly killed at least 16 civilians.”
